In December 2009, Tommyknocker Brewery released the Legend Olde Oaked Brown Ale to commemorate their 15th anniversary. In my opinion this is the best Tommyknocker beer I have ever had. This limited edition release has generous amounts of Crystal, Munich and Chocolate malts with a blend of American hops and a touch of pure maple syrup. Brewed and aged with toasted Hungarian oak, which has been sought after by ship builders for centuries. This full-bodied ale has intense aromas of caramel, vanilla and toasty oak. The palate is deep, bold and complex with flavors of spiced vanilla and oak with notes of black pepper and a touch of coffee bean and dark chocolate. This ale is surprisingly well balanced, I was expecting more sweetness to it with the maple syrup in there, but the hops and oak add a slight bitterness that was extremely welcome.
